The government has established a Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) Support Fund to mobilise additional resources to contain the outbreak in the //Kharas Region, as surveillance confirms that all positive cases detected so far remain confined to the Karasburg State Veterinary District.
Acting Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform Charles Mubita said the fund was established with support from the livestock industry and appealed to the public, private sector and development partners to contribute
The funding will support intensified disease-control measures, including surveillance, livestock traceability, clinical examinations, sample collection and laboratory testing.
“The Ministry, with the support of the industry, has established the FMD Support Fund, which is aimed at mobilising funds against the fight of FMD. We are therefore appealing to the general public, public/private sector and the development partners to contribute to the FMD Support Fund, as this will help Government to intensify measures necessary to deal effectively with the outbreak of the FMD,” Mubita said.
The fund comes after Namibia detected clinical cases of FMD in the //Kharas Region on 22 September 2026. Laboratory tests on 11 samples collected from a herd of 65 cattle subsequently confirmed 10 positive cases.
