Motorists will pay 10% more for vehicle licences from 1 August, while abnormal load fees and road carrier permit charges will increase by 20% under revised Road User Charges for the 2026/27 financial year.

The Roads Authority (RA) announced that the new tariffs will take effect on 1 August, with the updated fee schedule to be published in the Government Gazette.

The adjustments form part of Namibia’s Road User Charging System (RUCS), which is administered by the Road Fund Administration (RFA) to fund the construction, maintenance and rehabilitation of the country’s national and major urban road network.

According to the RA, the charging system operates on the “user pays” principle, requiring road users to contribute towards road infrastructure costs based on their level of use and the impact they have on the road network.

The RFA said the system is intended to ensure that road users contribute equitably to road funding, improve economic efficiency by linking charges to road use, enhance transparency in the collection and allocation of road funds, and promote balanced competition between road and rail transport.

The revised road user charges will apply to affected motorists and transport operators from the beginning of August.
