Of the three Groceries Wholesalers in Windhoek, Windhoek Cash n Carry surfaces as having the cheapest basket composition for the month of September.

This is according to The Brief’s survey which started from the month of June 2023. The survey consists of a selection of eight essential items that are commonly purchased by consumers during a month’s period.

The primary objective of the survey is to furnish shoppers with valuable insights regarding which wholesaler offers a competitive priced basket of goods for that month. The Wholesalers chosen for the survey are: Wecke & Voigts (Northern Industry), Windhoek Cash and Carry (Northern Industry), and Metro (Northern Industry).

Upon analysing our data for the month of September, Windhoek Cash and Carry emerges as the winner with the most affordable basket composition, priced at N$1276.67. This represents a 2.79% decrease compared to the previous month. Notably, the decrease can be attributed to the reduced cost of its top-scoring maize meal, which dropped from N$118.99 to N$112.99.

In contrast, Wecke & Voigts recorded the highest prices for the month of September, with a slight increase of 0.03%, resulting in a total basket cost of N$1,342.58.

Metro secured the second position in the survey, with an overall basket cost of N$1,302.92, reflecting an 8.24% decrease from August to September. This reduction is primarily due to lower prices for cooking oil, which decreased from N$258.99 to N$196.99, and macaroni pasta, which dropped from N$159.99 to N$136.99.

It’s important to note that the items included in the survey, such as Bokomo Four (all types), Marathon sugar, all types of cooking oils, and Topscore (all sizes), are all tax-free. This is a government initiative aimed at reducing taxes on essential commodities to assist the less fortunate.
