STANDARD BANK NAMIBIA

Standard Bank Namibia has introduced a dedicated Mommy’s Room at its head office, providing employees with a private space to express and store breast milk after returning from maternity leave as part of its support for working mothers.

The initiative, highlighted during World Breastfeeding Week, forms part of the bank’s employee wellbeing and workplace inclusion programme.

Standard Bank Namibia Health and Wellbeing Specialist Cicile Fouche said the facility is designed to create a supportive work environment for breastfeeding mothers.

“At Standard Bank Namibia, we understand that employee wellbeing extends beyond the workplace. Supporting mothers during their breastfeeding journey is not only about providing a physical space but about creating a culture where employees feel valued, respected and empowered. The Mommy’s Room is one of the ways we are building a workplace that recognises and responds to the diverse needs of our people,” Fouche said.

The bank said the facility provides a safe, private and comfortable environment where employees can express and store breast milk while balancing their professional responsibilities.

Employee Dinelao Gabriel-Nandjigua said the room has made her return to work easier.

“Every time I walk into the Mommy’s Room, I am filled with a genuine sense of relief and gratitude. Having access to a space that is comfortable, private, welcoming and thoughtfully designed makes a meaningful difference during the workday,” she said.

She added that the facility enables her to remain productive while continuing her breastfeeding journey.

Another employee, Imani Haufiku, said the dedicated room played an important role in her transition back to work after maternity leave.

“The Mommy’s Room has made a significant difference in my return-to-work experience. The room provides a clean, private and comfortable space for expressing and storing milk, enabling me to continue breastfeeding while remaining productive at work,” Haufiku said.

Standard Bank said initiatives such as the Mommy’s Room form part of its broader commitment to creating an inclusive workplace and supporting employees at different stages of their lives.
