The Development Bank of Namibia (DBN) and the National Housing Enterprise (NHE) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to drive innovative and sustainable housing solutions.

The partnership aims to enhance the provision of affordable housing through collaborative efforts, focusing on green housing initiatives, innovative financing models, and projects that benefit Namibians across all income groups.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, DBN CEO Dr. John Steytler described the MoU as a pivotal moment in reshaping Namibia’s housing landscape.

“This collaboration with NHE is not just an agreement but a step forward in reshaping the housing landscape in Namibia. By combining our expertise in finance and housing delivery, we aim to develop solutions that empower communities and foster economic growth while promoting sustainability,” he said.

Echoing his sentiments, NHE CEO Gisbertus Mukulu emphasized the importance of the partnership in transforming housing delivery for Namibians, particularly for low- and middle-income earners.

“At NHE, we are committed to providing housing solutions that address the real needs of Namibians, especially those in low- and middle-income groups. This partnership with DBN allows us to explore innovative models and scale up initiatives that will not only provide homes but improve lives,” Mukulu said.

To ensure the success of the partnership, a Steering Committee chaired by the CEOs of both institutions will oversee the alignment of projects with the strategic goals of DBN and NHE. Additionally, a Technical Committee composed of experts from both organizations will provide technical guidance and explore pilot projects.

One of the first initiatives under the MoU is the potential development of low-cost housing for employees of DBN and NHE, with the possibility of expanding similar projects to other state-owned enterprises.

Through this collaboration, DBN and NHE reaffirm their commitment to fostering economic and social transformation in Namibia, with housing identified as a cornerstone for improving the quality of life for citizens.
