The Federal Republic of Germany has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Namibia’s development and economic reforms, saying it will continue to provide more, despite having pumped N$29 billion (1.5 billion Euros) into Namibia since her independence.
The financial support stems from 1990 to 2021.
“The two governments confirmed their commitment to further strengthen the longstanding partnership and friendship. And this is also reflected in the scale of German development funding which is the highest per capita input in Africa,” said a joint statement by National Planning Commission of Namibia and the Germany Embassy.
The affirmations follows an Inter-governmental Bilateral Consultations on Development Cooperation, that took place from 27 February to 1 March.
During the consultations, both parties reconfirmed the three core areas of
the joint cooperation namely: Sustainable Economic Development, Training and Employment, with a focus in activities of private sector and financial sector
development as well as technical and vocational training.
Climate and Energy, such as involvement in renewable energy and energy efficiency, including inclusive sustainable urban development. Conserving Nature and Natural Resources, Protecting Life
on Earth through engaging in natural resource management-biodiversity, agriculture and integrated land
management as well as water, are among other focal areas of cooperation.
“Further fields of cooperation outside the focal areas that were discussed during the consultations are the outgoing focal area transport and the crosscutting program of Sustainable Development Goals-Initiative Namibia.”
“The main goal of development cooperation is to promote the sustainable economic development of Namibia by creating jobs and income, fighting poverty and the severe inequality in Namibia while at the same time preserving the natural resources of Namibia,” further read the statement.
The two missions also conducted a field trip to monitor project progress and development impact in the areas of Technical and Vocational Education Training, Inclusive Sustainable Urban Development; Natural Resource Management, Agriculture and Integrated Land Management as well as Transport, just to see and have a feel of how far, and the significance of support, has stretched.
