Fuel prices drop Wednesday

Namibian fuel prices are set to decrease tomorrow (Wednesday) after the Ministry of Mines and Energy lowered diesel prices by N$2.20 per litre and the petrol price by N$1.80 per litre to the relief of motorists.

The new fuel prices at Walvis Bay will thus become N$20.65 per litre for diesel and N$18.28 per litre for petrol, with effect from 4 January 2023.

This price cut follows the ministry’s decision in December 2022 to reduce the price of diesel by N$1.25 to N$22.85 per litre, while keeping the price of petrol unchanged.

Last year November, the ministry had announced a N$1.98 increase in the price of diesel to N$24.10 per litre, which caused concern for the mining and agricultural sectors, which heavily rely on fuel to operate machinery.

According to the Ministry of Mines and Energy, Namibia consumes an average of 90 million litres of fuel per month, with 60 million litres being diesel and 30 million litres being petrol
