O’Brien Hekandjo has been appointed Acting Chief Executive Officer for the City of Windhoek for three months.

Hekandjo who is the Strategic Executive: Electricity, replaces Jennifer Comalie who has been acting in the role since November, 2021.

Comalie took over from Strategic Executive for Human Capital and Corporate Services, George Mayumbelo who had been acting in the position since November 2020.

The appointment comes as the City battles to find a replacement for Robert Kahimise who resigned after 4 years at the helm of the municipality to join Cenored.

Despite interviews having been conducted with Otjiwarongo Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Moses Matyayi and Roads Authority CEO, Conrad Lutombi being reported to have emerged as preferred candidates, no appointment has been made, with council divided on how to proceed.

Who is O’Brien Hekandjo?

O’Brien Hekandjo is an Electric Engineer by profession and has previously worked for NamPower.

He briefly resigned from his role with the municipality to take up a position with Namport as Executive responsible for port operations, a decision later reversed.
