The Namibia Wildlife Resorts scooped three Eco awards at the recently held Hospitality Association of Namibia’s (HAN) ceremony which took place at Luderitz.

The Eco awards, which is a mark of distinction for accommodation establishments that are planned and managed according to eco-friendly principles, were also awarded to Olifantsrus, Onkoshi and Dolomite Camp with all of the establishments receiving a rating of 4 flowers.

The highest rating is generally five flowers.

“Eco friendly tourism is the epitome of our success in ensuring quality service delivery and focus. These awards are a clear indication of Namibia Wildlife Resorts’ vision of not only being Africa’s top destination for tourism but also highlights our mission of creating memorable tourism in a sustainable way,” said NWR Managing Director Dr. Matthias Ngwangwama.

Awarding an Eco Awards desert flower certificate is a sign that the establishment keeps to a standard of environmental care and implements sustainable practices for the future of the immediate environment, the company and the people.

Eco Awards Namibia is a mark of distinction for accommodation establishments that are planned and managed according to eco-friendly principles. The programme promotes the selective and careful use of resources, promoting, reducing, recycling and reusing.

In the process, an establishment can improve its profitability, often with very little additional expenditure. Eco Awards Namibia is an alliance of private sector and government organizations that runs a sustainable tourism certification programme.

The programme is based on similar schemes in several other countries, and the criteria that those schemes use were amended to suit the Namibian environment.
