The City of Windhoek (CoW) has appointed Zurilea Steenkamp as the new Strategic Executive for Economic Development and Community Service.

Steenkamp, who joined CoW in 2005, previously served as the City’s Manager for Economic Development before her current promotion.

She emerged from a pool of five candidates (Leslie Puriza, James Kalundu, Mary-Anne Kahitu, Zurilea Steenkamp and Vernouman Endjala) who were shortlisted for the position last year from a total of 204 applications.

“I see my role at CoW not only from the perspective of just being an employee, I see it as a purpose,” Steenkamp said of her promotion.

The appointment of Steenkamp comes as the capital city is due to appoint Roads Authority CEO Conrad Lutombi as its next Chief Executive Officer following approval from Minister of Urban and Rural Development Erastus Uutoni, in line with the requirements of the Local Authorities Act.

His appointment is, however, subject to him accepting the City’s offer.
