City of Windhoek plans 750 erven in two new Khomasdal townships

The City of Windhoek is planning to establish two new townships in the Khomasdal Constituency that are expected to deliver about 750 residential erven as part of efforts to increase the supply of serviced land.

The municipality said the proposed townships will be developed on Farms RE/999 and 1032, with Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) for both developments completed and submitted to the Environmental Commissioner for consideration.

“The developments form part of the City’s efforts to facilitate planned residential development and respond to the growing need for serviced land in the constituency,” the City said.

The planned developments come amid continued demand for residential land in Windhoek, where the municipality is working to expand serviced land and supporting infrastructure.

The City also reported progress in connecting households to electricity in parts of the constituency.

At Erf 1355, 34 houses are awaiting electricity connections pending the signing of outstanding lease agreements, while all 36 houses at Erf 3161, opposite the Otjomuise Clinic, have been fitted with ready boards and overhead electricity lines.

The municipality said electricity connections at Erf 3161 are expected to be switched on in the coming weeks once the required applications have been processed.

Residents at Erf 1355 who have agreed to share erven have been urged to finalise their lease agreements to allow electricity connections to proceed.

A further 209 houses in Otjomuise Extensions 6 and 7 are expected to be connected to electricity before November 2026.

Meanwhile, the City is preparing to decentralise selected municipal payment services in the Khomasdal Constituency.

From early 2027, residents are expected to be able to purchase water tokens and pay for municipal services at the Khomasdal Fire Brigade office.

The municipality said the move will reduce the need for residents to travel to Katutura or the city centre to access municipal payment services.
