Namibia recorded 99,735 passenger movements across its airports in May 2026, up 5.3% year-on-year despite a 2.4% decline from April, according to the Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA).

Passenger movements fell from 102,237 in April to 99,735 in May but remained higher than the 94,729 recorded in the corresponding month of 2025.

Hosea Kutako International Airport accounted for 81.9% of all passenger movements during the month, followed by Walvis Bay Airport (8.6%) and Eros Airport (5.2%).

“In absolute terms, a total of 99,735 passenger movements were recorded across airport terminals nationwide in May 2026, down from 102,237 movements registered in April 2026. Nevertheless, this represented an increase compared to the 94,729 passenger movements recorded in the corresponding month of 2025,” the NSA said.

At Hosea Kutako International Airport, passenger arrivals declined 2.7% month-on-month to 40,496, while departures increased 3.6% to 41,213. Compared with May 2025, arrivals rose 5.2%, while departures edged down 1.1%.

Walvis Bay Airport also recorded weaker activity on a monthly basis. Passenger arrivals fell to 4,165 from 5,342 in April, while departures declined to 4,416 from 5,209.

Despite the monthly slowdown, Walvis Bay continued to post strong annual growth, with arrivals increasing 21.5% and departures rising 10.3% compared with May 2025.

“The Arrivals Index for Walvis Bay Airport declined by 22.0% on a month-on-month basis in May 2026. Despite the monthly contraction, the index increased by 21.5% compared to the corresponding month of 2025,” the NSA said.

At Eros Airport, passenger arrivals increased 8.7% month-on-month to 2,579, while departures fell 34.6% to 2,640, reversing the sharp increase recorded in April.

Despite the decline in monthly departures, Eros Airport recorded annual growth in both categories, with arrivals increasing 19.0% and departures rising 5.3% compared with May 2025.

“The Departures Index for Eros Airport declined by 34.6% on a month-on-month basis in May 2026, reversing the 99.2% surge recorded in April 2026. Despite the monthly contraction, the index rose by 5.3% year-on-year compared to the corresponding month of 2025,” the agency said.
