Menzies Aviation Group, which has been evicted from Hosea Kutako International Airport by the Namibia Airports Company (NAC) and ceased providing ground handling services, maintains that it must still be given a 12-month notice to vacate the airport.

Philipp Joeinig, the Chief Executive Officer of Menzies Aviation Group, stated that Menzies had been operating under a new agreement at Hosea Kutako International Airport.

The said agreement, was entered into with the Namibian Airports Company on June 30, 2022.

“Menzies is currently occupying HKIA based on the terms of the new lease agreement. NAC sends monthly invoices to Menzies for rent, and Menzies is up to date with these payments. According to the Rent Ordinance applicable to the new lease agreement, NAC is required to provide Menzies with a notice of at least 12 months to vacate the Hosea Kutako International Airport. No such notice has been given. Menzies is not only entitled but also obliged to continue providing ground handling services to the public in accordance with the highest international standards,” Joeinig said in a statement.

Menzies, which operates in more than 60 countries, had been offering ground handling services at Hosea Kutako International Airport since 2014, an agreement which expired at the end of 2021.

Currently, NAC and Menzies are in court regarding the awarding of a new five-year ground handling contract to Paragon Investment Holdings, which is partnering with Ethiopian Airlines.
