NHE calls on Windhoek residents to register for affordable housing

The National Housing Enterprise (NHE) is urging Windhoek residents living in informal settlements to register for the construction of affordable homes.

Prospective customers must meet certain requirements, including being a title deed owner or part of a group with title deeds. Lease agreement holders and beneficiaries can also use co-applicants.

The NHE’s call for registration comes on the heels of the recent completion and handover of 60 houses under the Informal Settlement Upgrading programme pilot project. The programme is a smart partnership between the Ministry, Khomas Regional Council, NHE, and the City of Windhoek.

Launched in August 2020, the Informal Settlement Upgrading programme aims to provide affordable housing for residents of informal settlements in Windhoek. The programme is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to address the housing crisis in the country.

By registering for affordable housing, Windhoek residents living in informal settlements can take advantage of the government’s housing programmes and improve their living conditions.

With the success of the Informal Settlement Upgrading programme pilot project, there is hope that more affordable housing will be built and handed over to residents in the future.
