MultiChoice and Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC) have entered into a content streaming partnership which will allow the telco’s subscribers to stream content via Showmax.

Showmax is MultiChoice’s streaming service which offers customers a combination of African and international content.

As part of the agreement, the listed telco will offer special Showmax streaming data bundles for mobile or home broadband use.

“As MultiChoice Namibia celebrates its 30th anniversary, we are delighted to announce this new initiative which marks another milestone in our ever-growing relationship with MTC,” said MultiChoice Namibia Managing Director Roger Gertze.

A report by Digital TV Research says the over-the-top (OTT) market in Africa is set for an explosion of growth over the coming years, with revenue increasing by well over US$1 billion from 2020.

The continent’s collective OTT revenue was only US$392 million at the end of 2020, indicating there is significant room for growth in the coming years, says the report.

MTC is Namibia’s largest mobile telecommunications company with over 2.5 million subscribers.
