Nedbank Namibia says it has provided N$11 billion towards funding local residential property and key projects in the country, the bank’s Managing Director, Martha Murorua has revealed.

“We pride ourselves in contributing funding residential property to the value of more than N$5 billion and close to N$6 billion funding into key projects which will improve the livelihoods of many Namibians. These projects are not limited to the few examples that I will mention, but only demonstrates our intent to invest in Namibia for the benefit or our country. Nedbank visited Ongos Development which has now been able to finalise building the first houses funded by Nedbank Namibia. Nedbank also funded a truly world class fish processing facility by one of our very own Namibian-owned companies, Hangana seafood processing, which has been commissioned and fully operational,” she told guests during the inauguration of the bank’s Nedbank Campus on Tuesday.

“Namibia has always been credited with having some of our continent’s best road infrastructure, and we are proud of funding the development of roads in the South through RFA, as well as co-funding the N$7 billion DeBeers vessel to name a few.”

This comes as the bank’s new office building, built at a cost of N$485 million was officially opened by President Hage Geingob.

“The project is the first that actively serves to advocate green building and sustainable mobility, and furthermore the campus is not only good for the environment as it smooths out business daily operations which were spread out over 6 different buildings across Windhoek,” she said.

The campus houses over 500 Nedbank staff that were housed in six different buildings across Windhoek and has 29 meeting rooms named after Namibian conservancies that have been equipped with various top of the class technology that gives the best experience.

President Hage Geingob, who delivered a keynote address at the inauguration, said the building is a sign of innovation, economic development and a perfect example of Namibia’s commitment to a carbon free future and Nedbank’s commitment to the country’s environment.

“This new building truly represents innovation and efficiency, important cardinal pillars of progressive societies. Namibia is an environmentally conscious country as I always boast we are the first ones to to enshrine the protection of the environment in their constitution, thus is it is important to note Nedbank Namibia is giving importance towards ensuring the local banking sector places a vital part in accelerating the transition towards a lower carbon future,” said the President.

Meanwhile, in an update to guests, Murorua said the bank had recorded a 10% growth in its clientele base, a position it largely attributed to its digital offerings.

“On our market-leading Money App, enrolment is up 42%, with a 36% increase in transaction values. Our SendMoney volumes have virtually doubled at 93%, with the corresponding transactional values growing by 73%.These innovations translated into the growth of our client base by 10% overall, with the retail or consumer banking customer base growing by 21%,” Murorua said.

Nedbank is one of the country’s big four banks and operates 25 branches , close to 150 cashout points including point of sale, 60 ATMs and scores of Retail Cash out points at tills.
