Every month, starting June, The Brief will be surveying in-store prices of the same basket of goods across major wholesalers in Namibia, namely; Metro, Windhoek Cash ‘n Carry and Wecke and Voigts.
The survey aims to provide shoppers with guidance on which wholesaler offers the cheapest basket of goods for that particular month.

If some brands are not available, alternatives are used, but our aim is to keep the products as consistent as possible every month.
After collecting our data of eight staples across 3 major wholesalers, Windhoek Cash ‘n Carry emerged as the cheapest wholesalers in Namibia for the month of June 2023, with its basket costing N$1,406.10 compared to Metro which saw the highest price for the basket at N$1,454.10.
Wecke and Voigts came in second place with a basket cost of N$1,450.60.
Metro had the cheapest baking flour at a price of N$182.00 compared to Wecke and Voigts who had the most expensive flour at a price of N$188.10
Windhoek Cash ‘n Carry had the cheapest 5l cooking oil at a price of N$190.99 compared to Metro who had the most expensive cooking oil at a price of N$258.99.
Note: We do not take specials or loyalty card discounts into consideration. When we do find certain goods on special, for example, “Get N$10.00 off when buying 18 (medium) eggs and pay N$55.00”, we will log the price as N$65.00 to exclude the special.
