Two professionals in business attire smile as they hold a circular trophy and a certificate together in front of a Letshego-branded backdrop.

Letshego Bank Namibia is preparing to roll out instant person-to-person and business payment services after completing a key phase of Namibia’s national instant payments programme.

The bank has successfully completed the Government-to-Person (G2P) phase of the Instant Payment Programme (IPP), enabling it to receive real-time government payments through the country’s new payments infrastructure.

With the milestone achieved, Letshego is now developing additional instant payment services, including Person-to-Person (P2P) transfers, Business-to-Business (B2B) payments, and cash-in and cash-out capabilities.

The developments form part of broader efforts to modernise Namibia’s payments ecosystem by enabling real-time transactions across individuals, businesses and government institutions.

Letshego Bank Namibia Chief Executive Officer Ester Kali said the programme presents opportunities beyond regulatory compliance.

“We have positioned this initiative not only as a compliance requirement but as a national priority. It presents real opportunities to unlock lasting value for the nation,” Kali said.

The bank’s successful completion of the G2P phase earned it a certificate of recognition from Instant Payment Namibia (IPN), which is overseeing the rollout of the national instant payments infrastructure.

IPN Chief Operating Officer Marsorry Ickua said the achievement highlights growing participation by financial institutions in the country’s payments modernisation agenda.

“The completion of this phase confirms that the programme is gaining traction and that institutions are stepping up to build Namibia’s digital payments future,” Ickua said.

The G2P capability allows government payments, including pensions and social grants, to be transferred instantly into Letshego transactional accounts.

However, the bank’s next phase is expected to broaden the impact of the platform by extending real-time payments to consumers and businesses, supporting faster and more affordable digital transactions across the economy.
