The Namibian government is inviting developers to plan, establish and manage the country’s first Film and Creative City, a project to be developed as a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) aimed at positioning Namibia as a leading creative hub in Africa.
President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah launched the Expressions of Interest (EOI) process on Monday during the “Experience Namibia in New York” event at the 80th United Nations General Assembly, where the initiative was presented to international investors.
According to the Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board (NIPDB), the city will include world-class film production facilities, casting agencies, and accommodation and hospitality services.
The project is designed to strengthen skills development, create jobs, and stimulate both leisure and business tourism.
“The Namibia Film and Creative City will be developed as a Special Economic Zone, providing a comprehensive range of services, from state-of-the-art film production facilities and talent casting agencies to accommodation and hospitality,” said Catherine Shipushu, NIPDB Senior Manager: Marketing, Branding and Communications.
She added that the project would also drive the growth of Namibia’s creative economy by providing infrastructure, training opportunities, internships and on-the-job learning, while supporting sub-sectors such as fashion design, music and performing arts, filmmaking, technology and innovation.
Government said the bid process will include incentives such as secure land allocation within the SEZ, fast-tracked permits and visas, and one-stop investor services.
The project will be developed through a public-private partnership and is open to both Namibian and international developers with proven experience in large-scale infrastructure or creative industry projects.
