The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (MICT) has identified the establishment of a National Data Centre as one of its flagship projects for the 2026/27 financial year as government accelerates efforts to modernise Namibia’s digital infrastructure.
Presenting the ministry’s 2025–2030 Strategic Plan, Acting Executive Director Elizabeth Amagola said the National Data Centre forms part of a broader digital transformation programme backed by a N$639.2 million budget.
The project is expected to strengthen government’s digital infrastructure while supporting the secure storage, management and delivery of public digital services.
Alongside the National Data Centre, the ministry will prioritise the rollout of Common Use Radio Access Network (RAN) towers, implementation of the National Cybersecurity Strategy, and the development of the Data Protection Bill and Cybercrime Bill.
MICT is also reviewing the Universal Access and Service Policy, the Broadband Policy and amendments to the Communications Act as part of efforts to modernise Namibia’s digital policy framework.
Amagola said the ministry has allocated N$625.7 million for operational expenditure and N$13.6 million for development projects during the 2026/27 financial year.
She said the ministry is implementing five capital projects under the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework, including the construction of regional ICT offices in //Kharas, Kunene, Oshana and Hardap, as well as the continued expansion of digital connectivity through new Radio Access Network sites.
Beyond infrastructure, the ministry plans to strengthen digital skills, support technology start-ups and improve digital literacy while expanding access to government information services across all 14 regions.
The investment forms part of government’s broader strategy to build the digital infrastructure needed to support e-government services, improve cybersecurity and create the foundation for a more digitally connected economy.
