In December 2024, Pupkewitz Megabuild recorded the largest month-to-month price decrease of 12.05%, along with a year-on-year decrease of 2.31%, standing out among the four major Windhoek hardware stores surveyed by The Brief.

Key products contributing to Pupkewitz’s month-to-month drop included the Copper Tube 460 Class 0, which fell from N$720.75 to N$558.99, and the Aluminium Sliding Door (Bronze), which decreased from N$3,058.14 to N$2,398.99.

Following closely, BuildIt reported a 9.56% month-to-month decrease and a year-on-year decrease of 3.11%. Notable items contributing to BuildIt’s drop included the Aluminium Sliding Door (Bronze), which fell from N$2,872.19 to N$2,499.99, and the Door Frame Steel, which dropped from N$529.82 to N$349.00.

In third place, Ark Trading showed a 5.25% month-to-month increase, along with a year-on-year increase of 1.26%. Key contributors to Ark Trading’s month-to-month increase included the Aluminium Sliding Door (Bronze), which rose from N$2,779.85 to N$3,005.25, and Roofing Galvanized IBR, which increased from N$644.66 to N$696.97.

Finally, BUCO recorded the largest month-to-month increase of 16.26%, despite a 1.88% year-on-year decrease. BUCO’s month-to-month rise was driven by the Copper Tube 460 Class 0, which increased from N$692.12 to N$748.99, and the Aluminium Sliding Door (Bronze), which went up from N$2,814.59 to N$2,848.99.

Overall, Pupkewitz Megabuild experienced the largest month-to-month decrease, while BUCO recorded the most significant month-to-month increase. BuildIt and Ark Trading showed moderate changes in their pricing trends.

This survey draws data from four hardware stores: BuildIt, BUCO, Pupkewitz Megabuild, and Ark Trading. Conducted monthly by The Brief, it began in June 2023 to evaluate a basket of comparable hardware items that customers are likely to purchase each month.

The survey’s primary goal is to help shoppers identify which hardware wholesaler offers the most affordable basket of building materials for a given month. Additionally, the survey tracks changes in the basket to analyze both overall basket trends and individual item variations on a month-to-month and year-on-year basis.

The following items are included in the basket:

  • Roofing Galvanized IBR
  • Copper Tube 460 Class 0
  • Aluminium Window (Bronze)
