PGS books seismic survey in Namibia

Norwegian offshore seismic acquisition specialist PGS has won a contract from an undisclosed energy major for a 3D exploration project in Namibia.

The Oslo-listed company will mobilise the 2013-built Ramform Titan to carry out the survey.

The contract value has not been disclosed, but PGS boss Rune Olav Pedersen said the deal secures visibility for the vessel well into the winter season, with the acquisition expected to complete mid-February 2023.

At the end of September, PGS also secured a solid industry pre-funding for a multi-client survey in West Africa, the company’s first project in the region since early 2021.

The company’s order book totaled US$320 million as of September 30, 2022.

The business supports the energy industry, including oil and gas, offshore renewables and carbon storage.

This comes as in September, British multinational oil and gas company Shell Plc has contracted Northern Ocean’s Deepsea Bollsta to carry out drilling offshore Namibia under a 12-month contract.

Shell Plc, through its subsidiary Shell Namibia Upstream B.V, the National Petroleum Company of Namibia and Qatar Energy, is said to have discovered a working petroleum system for light oil in the Orange Basin, 270km from the town of Oranjemund, where drilling operations commenced in early December 2021 and were safely completed in early February 2022.

Northern Ocean said the contract is expected to begin in the middle of the fourth quarter this year and has an estimated duration of one year, plus one six-month option.
