Cheetah Cement Factory has been granted permission to resume operations by the Ministry of Labour after the company was ordered to cease operations early this month after violations related to occupational health and safety regulations were detected during an inspection.
“The Ministry has conducted a verification inspection on 16 and 20 May 2022to evaluate compliance on the identified shortfalls and is satisfied with the level of compliance as well as arrangements thereof and thus recommend for resumption of production activity,” Acting Executive Director in the Ministry of Labour, Lydia Indombo said.
According to the Ministry’s earlier findings, the cement manufacturer was found to be in violation of 10 occupational health and safety regulations such as failure to provide workers with suitable personal protective clothing, first and emergency arrangements, adequate sanitary conveniences and canteens among others.
Otjiwarongo based Cheetah Cement is the country’s second cement manufacturer, a partnership between local company , Whale Rock Cement and Chinese investors, Cheetah Cement and Asia and Africa Business Management (Xi’an) Co Ltd.
Construction of the plant began in August 2017, with a projected capacity of over 1.5Mta.
