The Bank of Namibia has announced the appointment of  Dr. Emma Haiyambo as Director of Research and Financial Sector Development and Chief Economist, Florette Nakusera as Director of Financial Stability and Macroprudential Oversight.

The bank’s Spokesperson, Kazembire Zemburuka has been appointed as Director of Strategic Communications and all appointments are with effect from 1 January 2022.

“These changes have been necessitated by the adoption of a new organisational structure by the Bank to provide a solid platform for the effective delivery of the Bank’s mandate, which has been expanded in scope through the promulgation of the Bank of Namibia, Act 1 (2020). To comprehensively carry out this new mandate a new Department of Financial Stability and Macroprudential Oversight has been created. At the same time, the Research Department has been re-organised to cater for financial sector development, a key undertaking in the financial inclusion objective of the Bank,” BoN Governor Johannes !Gawaxab said.

This comes as the Anti-Money Laundering and Combatting the Financing of Terrorist and Proliferation Council chaired by !Gawaxab appointed Gerrit Eiman as Acting Director of the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC).

Eiman, an admitted legal practitioner of the High Court, is currently the Deputy Director in the FIC responsible for Financial Investigations and Analysis, as well as Law Enforcement and Prosecutorial Support and has been at the FIC for more than 13 years.

The appointments come after the apex bank board approved changes to its structure, a development that has seen the appointment of Leonie Dunn as Second Deputy Governor for a period of five years.
