Will Multichoice Namibia increase Dstv prices for 2022?

Multichoice Namibia is mum on whether or not it will effect an annual price increase this year across all of DStv's offerings.

MultiChoice South Africa has announced its annual DStv price adjustments, increasing fees of its packages by between N$5 and N$20 per month, amounting to increases between 1.2% and 4.9%.

DStv Compact subscribers will receive the most significant increase and will have to pay N$20 more per month — a 4.9% hike.

The new prices kick in on 1 April 2022.

Multichoice Namibia Spokesperson, Levana Cloete although tightlipped on any price increases for Namibian subscribers said any adjustment in its subscriptions was to ensure that its able to provide quality content.

“Any price increases in Namibia will, as always, be announced to customers on the official MultiChoice communication channels. MultiChoice takes into account the economic pressures our customers may face when considering price adjustments. However, to ensure that we provide our customers with world class content, inflationary costs are expected year on year,” she said in response to an inquiry from The Brief.

On whether Multichoice Namibia take into considering that many customers remain under pressure two years into the COVID-19 pandemic, for any would be adjustment, Cloete said, “With our ‘Step-Up’ campaign, all active, disconnected and new DStv customers get upgraded to a second higher package, when paying for a package higher than their last active subscription. All these initiatives have been introduced to ensure that DStv and GOtv continue to offer customers the best in value and available content.”

Quizzed about mechanisms being put in place by MultiChoice Namibia to retain customers who are shifting to alternative entertainment platforms, Cloete said, “We remain committed to ensuring Namibians continue to enjoy unrivalled access to entertainment. With the launch of the Namibian channel – Network TV, this hyperlocal content offering, that customers can relate to and be inspired by, will certainly enhance the customer’s viewing experience even more, and at great value. Customers can also look out for more exciting content and products that will launch during the year, which will benefit them greatly.”

She said the company, although aware of competition coming from streaming platforms such Netflix, Dstv was providing unparalleled content.

“MultiChoice welcomes competition in the pay television and entertainment industry - we believe it is good for consumers. When it comes to breadth of content, live sports, documentaries and news, the latest shows and movies, DStv delivers like no other service provider can,” Cloete said.
