Menzies appeals, retains HKIA airport ground handling service rights

Menzies Aviation continues to provide ground handling services at Hosea Kutako International Airport (HKIA) after it filed an appeal against a High Court ruling which had ordered it to cease operations when its contract expired on the 30th of June,2022.

The ruling which was handed by Justice Orben Sibeya with costs, had also ordered the Deputy Sheriff to evict the company from HKIA and from all premises at HKIA which it occupies by virtue of the ground handling services agreement and to remove all its equipment.

According to the Namibia Airports Company (NAC), which had taken the global ground services and cargo handling company to court, seeking relief , Menzies will continue to offer services until the court pronounces itself.

“Kindly note that Menzies Aviation will continue to provide ground handling services at HKIA until further notice,” Leornard Shipuata, Executive Airports Operations said in a notice to its stakeholders.

Menzies is currently challenging Paragon Investment Holdings and its partners, Ethiopia Airlines’ right to takeover the multi-million-dollar Hosea Kutako International Airport ground handling services after having been successfully awarded through a tendering process.

In court papers filed before the Windhoek High Court, Menzies had claimed Paragon Investment Holdings and its partner, Ethiopia Airlines did not have the capacity to handle ground handling services at the country’s biggest airport.

According to court papers filed, the Paragon Investment Holdings and its partner, Ethiopia Airlines’ winning bid has guaranteed the NAC N$538 000 in income per month.

Menzies has been providing passenger and cargo handling services at HKIA since February 2014, with its contract having been extended twice before.
