Choppies 2023’s cheapest supermarket

Choppies claims the title of Windhoeks budget friendly supermarket for 2023 this is according to The Briefs monthly grocery basket comparison

Commencing in May the survey which initially featured 16 standardised groceries expanded to 20 items in June including the addition of Food Lovers Market supermarket

The monthly analysis reveals Choppies consistently maintained its status as the most economical grocery retailer from June to December 2023 With an average of N$92424 during the 7 month survey period

The standout item contributing to Choppies advantage over other retailers was its Beef Stew item averaging N$7813 compared to OK Foods Beef Stew averaging at N$11499

Additionally the combined price per kilogramme for Onions Potatoes and Tomatoes played a crucial role in securing Choppies cost effective position

In contrast OK Foods held the position of the highest priced overall basket averaging N$105734 during the survey period Despite starting at a high priced overall basket composition costing N$109880 in June OK Foods demonstrated a significant drop reaching N$95760 in December

Woermann Brock and Food Lovers Market did not exhibit significant price fluctuations Woermann Brocks overall basket cost ranged from N$103880 in June to N$101780 in December averaging at N$103163

Similarly Food Lovers Market showed minimal changes starting at N$103222 in June and ending at N$102894 in December with an average of N$103928

Shoprite maintained an average basket cost of N$98366 while Pick n Pay followed closely at N$98550 Checkers stood at N$101124 and Spar at N$103519
