Trigon Metals Inc. has announced that it recorded exceptional production from its Kombat Mine in October, in a month that saw the company successfully ship the first concentrate, totalling 101 tonnes, to its off-taker, IXM.
Trigon Metals President, CEO, and Director, Jed Richardson said the company is about a week away from declaring commercial production.
This comes as the company’s flagship, Kombat Copper Mine in Namibia, commenced commercial production in October after producing its first sale-ready dried copper concentrate for sale at the mill on August 21.
The mill has a capacity of 1,000 tonnes per day and 436 tonnes of ore were processed through the mill at 44% of capacity, and the company was targeting 70% production by the end of September.
“The journey towards this accomplishment began with the company’s initial target of 30 days of continuous operation at around 70% capacity. In September, Trigon Metals managed 23 operating days and achieved an impressive 72% capacity, edging closer to the goal of reaching commercial production,” said Richardson.
However, he said the real highlight emerged in the last two weeks of September, starting from September 16th, when the operation reached a remarkable capacity of over 95%.
He added that copper recoveries have been consistently impressive exceeding 80%, and reaching a specified recovery rate of 85% during the last two weeks of September.
“We produced 470 tonnes of concentrate throughout the month, with an average concentrate grade of around 37% copper and almost 300 grams per tonne of silver in the concentrate,” he said.
Richardson noted that this translates to “approximately N$27.4 million (US$1.5 million) in total metal revenue.”
Consequently, the CEO expressed optimism for the future that production is off to a great start at the Kombat mine, and commercial production is on the horizon with great news to be expected in the coming weeks
This comes after the company had temporarily suspended operations last year, utilising the hiatus to reconfigure the mine plan, prioritising higher-grade and more consistent orebodies found in the Kavango pit and Kombat trend mineralization, as reported by the company.
Trigon Metals focuses on copper and silver holdings and operations in Namibia and Morocco.
