The City of Windhoek says it issued a total of 574 bids with an estimated combined value of N$1.3 billion over the past five years.

According to Moses Matyayi, the CEO of the City of Windhoek, the bids were allocated across various city departments, each responsible for enhancing different facets of the city’s infrastructure and services.

The City Police, entrusted with safeguarding the city’s safety and security, issued a total of seven bids, cumulatively valued at N$2.2 million.

“Economic Development and Community Services emerged as the front-runner with 67 bids, reflecting a total value of N$34.6 million,” Matyayi said.

He said the electricity department played a pivotal role in shaping the city’s development, securing 108 bids and amassing N$328.6 million.

Finance and customer services also made substantial contributions by securing 65 bids with a total value of N$106.2 million.

Matyayi noted that to bring about sustainable housing solutions, “the housing property management and human settlement departments received five bids, amassing a cumulative value of N$35.5 million.”

Meanwhile, the human capital and corporate services department, responsible for the city’s administration and personnel requirements, obtained 34 bids with a total value of N$47.2 million.

“With 63 bids, the information communication technology department played a pivotal role in furthering Windhoek’s technological advancement, accumulating a total value of N$92.9 million,” he said.

The infrastructure, water and technical services department emerged as a key player in the city’s development, securing 179 bids with a cumulative value of N$594.3 million.

Meanwhile, the Office of the Chief Executive Officer granted 30 bids, amounting to N$9.2 million.

The municipality’s urban and transport planning department received 16 bids with a total value of N$36 million.

“Foreign firms secured 34 bids, while large national firms achieved 334, underlining their significant contributions. Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) succeeded with 204 bids, and a collaborative SME and large national firms’ effort secured 2 bids,” said the CEO.

“These statistics underscore the variety of businesses engaged in the bidding process, emphasising the City of Windhoek’s dedication to promoting a broad spectrum of enterprises in its development projects.”
