MTC Namibia has been named as the mobile operator with the fastest internet speed in Namibia, according to user-initiated tests completed on Speedtest® by Ookla®, a global leader in mobile and broadband network intelligence, testing applications, and technologies.

MTC Namibia, which has invested N$1.2 billion as part of its network expansion to date since 2017, emerged as the 2022 award winner for the fastest carrier by Ookla in recognition of providing the fastest Speedtest Award for mobile and fixed network speed in Namibia for the third and fourth quarters of 2022.

Ookla® compared 93,908 user-initiated tests that were taken on various Speedtest iOS and Android mobile applications connected to a mobile or fixed network, including tests taken on mobile phones over a Wi-Fi connection.

MTC Namibia achieved a Speed Score of 22.13, providing faster internet speeds to its users compared to other major mobile providers. The listed telco also achieved the highest download speeds of 73.96 Mbps and upload speeds of 53.67 Mbps in Windhoek during the period under review.

MTC Namibia’s Chief Technical & Information Officer, Monica Nehemia, said the award serves as validation that the company’s efforts to provide superior internet services to customers have been acknowledged and are on the right track.

“This award amplifies the ethos of MTC and speaks to our route to creating sustainable value for all our stakeholders through innovative digital solutions and a high-performance culture. If anything, it only says that we are on the right path and our work here continues to be recognized,” she said.

“We are dedicated to ensuring that our network is constantly meeting the expectations of our customers, to provide them with an exceptional experience when they choose MTC as their service provider,” she added. “Our network is designed to deliver unparalleled speed and reliability. Whether you’re streaming or browsing, you can expect fast speeds and crystal-clear connections. We’re proud to offer this service to our customers and are confident that it will meet or exceed their expectations.”

MTC Namibia’s Managing Director, Dr. Licky Erastus, said the company was committed to ensuring that every person in Namibia has access to the benefits of a modern connected world.

“Our aspiration as MTC Namibia is to ensure that every person across Namibia has access and enjoys the benefits of a modern connected world, and therefore we continue to invest in our network with the latest technologies to ensure that we provide these services to our customers at a quality experience,” Erastus said.

“Speedtest Awards, presented by Ookla, are an elite designation reserved for the fastest and top-performing fixed broadband and mobile operators around the world. It is our pleasure to present MTC with the award for Fastest Mobile Network in Namibia. This recognition is a testament to their exceptional performance in Q3-Q4 2022 based on Ookla’s rigorous analysis of consumer-initiated tests taken with Speedtest,” said Ookla CEO Doug Suttles.
