The City of Windhoek (CoW) has announced the reappointment of George Mayumbelo as acting Chief Executive Officer from 9-30 November 2022.
Mayumbelo, who serves as the Strategic Executive for the Human Capital and Corporate Services Department, takes over from O’Brien Hekandjo who was acting CEO from 16 August 2022 until 8 November 2022.
Mayumbelo previously acted in the position from November 2020 until the appointment of Jennifer Comalie, the Strategic Executive for Finance and Customer Services, in the position in November of last year.
The reappointment comes as CoW has unanimously endorsed the appointment of Roads Authority CEO Conrad Lutombi as the City’s new CEO.
Nonetheless, Lutombi will only assume his new role as the City’s CEO when the Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Erastus Uutoni, has approved his appointment.
The municipality will, however, still need to make a formal offer to Lutombi after having satisfied the requirements of the Local Authorities Act by seeking approval from Uutoni, the outcome of which will be determined by the candidate, to accept the offer or not.
The Windhoek municipality has been operating without a substantive CEO since the resignation of Robert Kahimise in 2020, who joined CENORED after a four-year tenure at the helm of the municipality.
