The Solidarity Union and the Namib Mills on Thursday agreed to a two-year salaries deal that will see all employees getting a 7.5 percent increment for the period of July 2021 to June 2023.
Namib Mills Managing Director Peter Van Niekert expressed his satisfaction with the agreement.
“This is a good settlement and all parties are able to meet halfway. Both parties are not fully satisfied with the agreement as Namib Mills has to pay out more than they wanted to and the employees will receive less than what they were seeked for .At the end of the day, this is very important at a food security level. This is why with the union we decided to work together and not create another chaos,” he said.
“We are all stakeholders that want to work together for a better future.”
The agreement also covers full back pay, inclusive of any and all overtime worked.
The wage increment is effective from the 1st of May 2022 and all employee outstanding payments in respect of the wage increment from last year will be settled by the end of June 2022.
The Solidarity Union represents more than 2 000 Namib Mills employees countrywide, with about 30 workers at Walvis Bay.
