Qatar Airways has officially announced that it will be resuming flights to Windhoek effective June 25, 2022, as part of the airline’s largest-ever African schedule, which will begin on the same date.
The carrier will operate three weekly non-stop flights to and from Windhoek via Hamad International Airport (HIA) using a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, which will have 22 seats in Business Class and 232 seats in Economy Class.
“This resumption demonstrates the strong ties between Doha and Namibia, with Qatar Airways enjoying an increasingly robust presence across the African continent, supporting economies and the ongoing recovery of the travel industry in the region,” Akbar Al Baker, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Airways Group said.
The flight resumption will link Windhoek to more than 200 locations in 31 African countries every week and approximately 150 destinations across the globe.
“With the reinstatement of flights from Windhoek to Doha, not only will Qatar Airways be better positioned to meet the growing demand for travel in Southern Africa, but it will also enable an even greater number of our valued passengers in Africa to enjoy our signature five-star service on board,” says the airline,” he said.
This comes as the Namibia Airports Company (NAC) revealed last year that it was in talks with 4 airlines, including South African Airways (SAA) to resume flights to Namibia.
Currently Airlink, FlyWestair, Ethiopian Airlines and Eurowings Discover are calling at Hosea Kutako International Airport (HKIA), with the NAC expecting more airlines to return and increase frequencies.
