Building projects worth N$62m completed in October

A total of 108 building projects valued at N$62 million were completed in October 2021, with more than half of the money being spent on housing projects, latest figures from the City of Windhoek show.

At least N$15,350,000 was channeled towards commercial projects, while additions came in at N$10,432,500 and public projects at N$2,300,000.

This is a 13% increase against 67 projects completed in October of 2020 with a total value of N$54,948,187.

“Year to date, 1,220 building projects have been completed. However, this includes plans that were approved in prior years," said CoW.

During the period under review, a total of 281 new building plans were received, 290 were approved during October 2021, compared to 247 being approved during September 2021.

“Year to date, CoW has received 2,598 plans and approved 2,241. This leaves a backlog of 357 plans that must still be approved. Some of this backlog was attended to, hence more plans were approved than what was received in October 2021.”

In Swakopmund, a total of 59 building plans with a value of N$36.8 million were approved during October 2021, a 17.4% increase compared to 88 , with a value of N$59 million having been approved during September 2021.

In October, 27 building projects were completed in Swakopmund with a value of N$20.1 million, compared to 34 projects with a value of N$25.6 million having been completed in September.

“ These included 10 new residential projects (N$9.8 million), 15 residential additions and alterations (N$5.2 million) and new industrial buildings (N$5 million).”
