New ride-hailing company debuts in Namibia amid fierce competition

International ride-hailing company, Yango, has made its entry into the Namibian market with the launch of its services in Windhoek. This move comes as competition in the local market continues to heat up, with established players such as LEFA, TaxiConnect, InDriver, InterCity, Dial a Cab, and City Cab already operating in the area.

Yango's expansion into Namibia marks the company's presence in 11 African countries, including Ivory Coast, Ghana, Cameroon, Senegal, Zambia, Angola, Congo Brazzaville, DRC, Mozambique, and Algeria. With operations in over 300 cities across 15 countries, Yango is a prominent player in the ride-hail industry.

General Manager for Yango in Africa Adeniyi Adebayo expressed confidence in the Namibian market: "We see great potential in the Namibian market as the country has a growing and diversified economy and there is a high demand for a modern ride-hailing service."

He added that the company's top priorities are comfort, safety, and affordability, and that Yango has developed its own security features and technologies to ensure both passengers and drivers feel safe during every trip.

Unlike traditional taxi services, Yango operates through a smartphone app that matches passengers with local transportation providers known as Yango Partners. The company has opened a dedicated centre for its drivers in Windhoek and does not operate its own cars or drivers.

A ridesharing company is a company that, via websites and mobile apps, matches passengers with drivers of vehicles for hire that, unlike taxicabs, cannot legally be hailed from the street.

LEFA, the Namibian ride-hailing company, reported completing 170,000 rides as of August of last year.

With the launch of its services in Windhoek, Yango aims to offer a convenient, safe, and affordable ride-hail option for passengers in the city.
