Namibia scraps VAT on sanitary pads

The Ministry of Finance and Public Enterprises has announced the removal of Value Added Tax (VAT) on sanitary pads with effect from 1 January 2023, when the VAT Amendment Act of 2022 comes into effect.

“The amendments to the Act include the re-classification of the supply of ‘sanitary pads’ as a zero-rated supply. This means, no VAT is to be charged on sanitary pads products (as defined in the Amendment Act) as from 01 January 2023. Registered VAT persons (vendors) are therefore, reminded to adjust their sale systems in order to implement the new provision of the law, and accordingly providing the necessary relief on the costing of these products to consumers,” Finance and Public Enterprises Spokesperson Wilson Shikoto said on Thursday.

The 15% removal of tax from sanitary pads comes after a motion was passed in the National Assembly beginning of last year to remove tax on sanitary products.
