TAAG to resume Windhoek flights

TAAG Angola Airlines is set to resume Windhoek -Luanda flights starting on Thursday, 21 October 2021.

Flights between the two countries were suspended on the 19th of March 2020, at a time the most nations effected lockdowns to curb the spread of the deadly coronavirus pandemic.

The Angolan airline, which had seven weekly flights to Windhoek, said it will initially resume the route with two flights per week – on Mondays and Thursdays.

Namibia Airports Company Spokesperson Dan Kamati when quizzed on the significance of the resumption of flights by TAAG said: “It’s a significant route for obvious reasons, such as socio-economic revival amid the COVID-19 pandemic as well as the cultural and historical ties that the two countries continue to foster.”

Air Namibia, which is now defunct, previously serviced the route and suspended flights in April of last year after 28 years of flying to the Angolan capital, Luanda, citing viability of the route.

Namibia has witnessed increased interest from airlines looking to resume flights into the country, with South Africa Airways among those.
