Standard Bank Namibia facilitated deals worth N$ 1.9 billion last year, The Brief can reveal.

The bank, which was awarded the Best Investment Bank in Namibia accolade at the 2021 Global Banking and Finance Awards, is continuing with its economic development agenda after it emerged that in the past seven months alone it has already handled N$1.6 billion worth of deals.

“We trust that it reconfirms our commitment, support and insight to our existing clients and create such expectation for our prospective clients,” Standard Bank Namibia’s Head of Corporate and Investment Banking, Nelson Lucas said.

“Identifying and supporting the relevant growth drivers for Namibia is quite key. Our focus will be on unemployment, social and environmental challenges with our attention towards specific sectors that will enhance growth of our economy, with our investment last year into AfriTin of N$ 90 million for their expansion of the Uis Tin Mine processing plant, amongst others, demonstrating exactly that.”

Commenting on the latest award, Lucas said, “It presents confirmation of our (Standard Bank’s) commitment to the growth of our Country and brilliant basics (i.e. doing the right business the right way). In addition, the awards also proves Standard Bank’s tenacity, dedication and commitment to perform and / or provide quality financial services to our clients.”

He said the listed banking group continues with its engagement strategy, which allows it to identify and meet its client needs.

“We love our brand and truly believe in its purpose as true Namibians.  In addition, our continued engagements with our clients and key stakeholders (regulator) helps us to understand the needs, challenges as well as the developments within our market and as a result, this gives us the right type of tools to provide tailor made solutions to our clients,” Lucas said.

Some of the highlights of the bank’s journey over the past few years include listing on the Namibian Stock Exchange and building the widest-ranging branch network with a combined 63 branches and agencies and 238 ATM’s throughout Namibia.

To underscore its consistent high performance, the bank has won a number of awards in the past.

These include The Banker Investment Banking Awards: Most Innovative Investment Bank for Equity Raising - Africa (2019), Most innovative investment bank – Africa (2015), Global Finance World’s among others.
