Standard Bank reports 98% surge in home loan deals as regional housing activity accelerates

Standard Bank Namibia has reported a 98% increase in home loan deal volumes, reflecting strong national demand and a notable rise in activity beyond Windhoek, particularly in the northern regions.

The figures were announced at the bank’s Home Loans Grand Finale, where top-performing estate agents, developers and consultants were recognised for their role in driving growth across the housing market.

Head of Home Loans, Randy Slabbert, said the bank had also recorded a 48% year-on-year increase in participating estate agents and a 75% rise in the value of new business. “Results of this magnitude are only possible through partnerships and a shared focus on serving our customers efficiently,” he said.

Slabbert added that the expansion was not limited to the capital. He noted “remarkable growth in the regions, especially in northern Namibia where estate agents and developers are driving housing activity and stimulating local economies”. He said the momentum demonstrated that housing finance was “a catalyst for broader economic development, creating jobs and opportunities across Namibia” and strengthening economic linkages beyond the capital.

Standard Bank Chief Executive Erwin Tjipuka said the bank remained committed to supporting national development through sustainable housing finance. “Namibia is our home, and at Standard Bank, we are committed to driving her growth. Financing homes is not just about bricks and mortar; it is about building communities, creating opportunities and shaping a future where every Namibian has a place to call home,” he said.

Tjipuka also highlighted the impact of the Buy-a-Brick initiative, which raised N$2.5 million in 2024 and enabled the construction of more than 60 homes for families previously living in informal settlements. “Through Buy-a-Brick, we are not just building houses, we are building hope,” he said.

“With the right investment, the right partnerships and the right vision, Namibia can deliver solutions that benefit not only our nation but the global economy.”

Head of Personal and Private Banking, Karen van der Merwe, said improved operational processes had strengthened service delivery in the home loans division. She pointed to a 72% reduction in reworks, quicker turnaround times and improved oversight through capacity models and attorney monitoring. “Together, we are not just financing homes; we are building trust, communities and Namibia’s future,” she said.

The evening concluded with the announcement of this year’s top performers. Okamita Properties was named Developer of the Year 2025, while Rightmove Properties took the title of Estate Agency of the Year 2025. Amunyela Helena was recognised as Estate Agent of the Year 2025. Lebeus Hango won Mobile Home Loan Consultant of the Year 2025, Moses Amoolongo received the Merit Award for the most deals, and Shariffa Brussel was named In-Branch Consultant of the Year 2025.

Accepting the agency award, Lourette Liebenberg of Rightmove Properties said the recognition underscored her team’s commitment. “Carrying the crown for the second year in a row is a testament to our team’s dedication and the unwavering support of our clients and partners. Here’s to excellence, growth and even greater heights ahead,” she said.

Standard Bank said the Home Loans Grand Finale served as more than an awards platform, describing it as a reaffirmation of its broader vision to expand homeownership, strengthen sustainability and drive economic development through collaboration.
