The Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises, Iipumbu Shiimi, has appointed Clive Kavendjii as the Acting Chairperson of the Namibia Power Corporation (NamPower) Board of Directors, following the resignation of Ester Kali as Chairperson, effective 31 August 2024, in compliance with regulatory requirements.
“NamPower’s Board and Management express their heartfelt appreciation for Dr. Kali’s leadership and the opportunity to have worked with her. We wish her all the best in her future endeavors,” NamPower said on Monday.
The power utility also expressed confidence in the Board’s continued leadership under Kavendji.
Earlier this year, Shiimi appointed new board members for NamPower, chaired by Letshego Namibia Chief Executive Officer, Ester Kali, for a fixed term of four years.
Kavendjii was reappointed to the Board as the new Vice-Chairperson.
Other members of the Board include Gothlieb Hamutwe and Ralph Tobich.
Martha Mbombo, Evat Kandongo, and Silke Hormung were reappointed as board members.
The appointments were made in terms of the Public Enterprises Governance Act No. 1 of 2019, replacing the Daniel Motinga-led board, which served a three-year term from 1 October 2020 until 30 September 2023.
NamPower is the national power utility of Namibia, specializing in the generation and transmission of electricity.
