Buco June’s cheapest hardware store in The Brief Building Materials Survey

Every month, The Brief will survey in-store prices of the same basket of building materials across four different hardware wholesalers in Windhoek namely, Build it, Buco, Pupkewitz Megabuild, and Ark Trading.

The survey aims to provide shoppers with guidance on which hardware wholesaler offers the cheapest basket of building materials for that particular month.

After analyzing our data on 17 building materials across 4 major hardware wholesalers it was determined that Buco emerged as the most affordable hardware wholesalers in Windhoek for the month of June 2023.

The total cost of the cart of building materials at Buco amounted to N$7,041.25, whereas Ark Trading had the highest price for the same cart, which totaled N$7,798.14.

In second place was Build It, with a cart  cost of N$7,706.62.

Our analysis revealed that the products with the most significant price differences were the aluminium sliding door (Bronze), aluminium window (bronze), and ceiling Board.

Pupkewitz Megabuild offered the most economical aluminum sliding door, priced at N$2,191.30, while Build It had the most expensive aluminum sliding door, priced at N$3,371.79.

Meanwhile, Built had the least expensive Aluminium Window (Bronze), priced at N$803.66, while Buco It had the most expensiveAluminium Window (Bronze)  priced at N$929.00.

Build It had the least expensive ceiling Board, priced at N$172.92, whereas Buco had the most expensive ceiling board, priced at N$234.77.

In almost all cases it is possible to find any of these products at a cheaper price or to find cheaper alternatives, depending on location or time of month. Our sample is intended to simply reflect the total price of the cart  in a single visit on a particular day.
