Current Otjiwarongo Municipality Chief Executive Officer Moses Matyayi is edging closer to taking reigns at the City of Windhoek.
This comes as Urban and Rural Development, Erastus Utoni has approved Matyayi’s appointment and remuneration package offered.
“The minister responded positively to the endorsement last week including the package. He was happy with what was offered. However, I am not too sure now if everything has been compiled and presented before the said candidate is notified,” said City of Windhoek spokesperson Harold Akweenye without revealing who the candidate is.
The approval is in line with the requirements of the Local Authorities Act.
Meanwhile, Management Committee Chairperson Sam Nujoma, told The Brief that he was not at liberty to break the news, saying Mayor Joseph Uapingene was the right person to shed light.
“We will have positive news next week, let’s say Thursday or Friday. Something good to share, but for now, I cannot comment on the matter, it’s only the mayor,” said Nujoma.
Meanwhile, Uapingene’s mobile phone has been unreachable, while Utoni’s phone rang unanswered by the time of going to print.
Equally, Matyayi did not respond to text messages, hence The Brief could not independently verify if he had been duly informed.
Last month, Nujoma was reported saying, council had sent an endorsement of Matyayi who came second in the interviews to the Urban and Rural minister for his approval.
This was after Roads Authority CEO Conrad Lutombi, who was tops, rejected the municipality’s offer.
The capital city has been operating without a substantive CEO since November 2020 following the resignation of Robert Kahimise.
