The Ministry of Finance and Public Enterprises has set aside N$400 million for public enterprises.

The tabling of the national budget statement for the fiscal year 2023/24 by the Ministry of Finance and Public Enterprises revealed that N$435,282,000 has been set aside for public and departmental enterprises as well as private industries.

The Namibian Institute of Pathology (NIP) is set to receive N$107 million the largest stake of the amount.

The Agro-Marketing And Trade Agency (AMTA)—an established agency under the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform, in charge of managing Fresh Produce Business Hubs—is expected to receive approximately N$72 million.

Meanwhile, Meat Corporation of Namibia (MeatCo), which has been reported to be facing operational challenges, has been allocated N$66.7 million for the financial period under review.

Shiimi said the government recognises the ongoing difficulties at MeatCo and realise the importance of the entity in anchoring the performance of the livestock subsector and the economy broadly.

“In this regard, we have undertaken an in-depth review and analysis of MeatCo’s Business Strategy, Business Plan as well as its funding structure. We are interrogating the results and recommendations of the diagnostic report and will undertake the necessary steps in the interest of securing the long-term sustainability of the sector,” he said.

The Road Contractors Company (RCC) is expected to receive N$55.9 million, Namibia Wildlife Resorts (NWR) is expected to pocket N$50 million, while Namibia Airports Company is expected to receive N$47.5 million.

Other smaller entities identified are the Epangela Mining Company, Zambezi Waterfront which closed down in 2016 and the Luderitz Waterfront.

The entities are allocated N$12 million, N$4 million and N$9 million respectively.
