The African Energy Chamber (AEC) has endorsed this year’s edition of the Namibia International Energy Conference, set to take place in Windhoek in April.
The theme of this year’s event is “Shaping the Future of Energy Towards Value Creation,” with the goal of bringing together Namibian energy leaders and global industry professionals to discuss the challenges and opportunities in the country’s ever-evolving energy landscape.
“As a strategic partner for the annual event, the AEC is thrilled to play a leading role in bringing Namibian and African energy stakeholders together with their global counterparts to discuss ways to fast-track energy developments for energy security and economic expansion,” said NJ Ayuk, the Executive Chairman of the AEC.
The recent emergence of Namibia’s oil and gas industry has revitalized Africa’s upstream sector, with companies such as TotalEnergies and Shell making major discoveries in the Venus and Graff-1 prospects offshore Namibia in 2022. Through high-level panel discussions and exhibitions, the conference will focus on how Namibia’s oil and gas resources can bring tangible socioeconomic benefits to the local economy and people, while driving regional energy security and the global energy transition.
“We are honored to be part of this drive to attract more investment into Namibia, creating local content and opportunities for working men and women,” Ayuk said. “This conference has become a place where energy investment and partnership deals aimed at accelerating Namibia’s energy industry will be signed. Namibia has created an enabling environment for investment and has a strong team managing its energy ministry and Namcor, giving investors confidence to invest in the country.”
The monetization of oil and gas from the Venus and Graff-1 discoveries is expected to bring in up to US$5.6 billion in government revenues and double the size of the Namibian economy.
Namibia’s vast untapped renewable energy and gas resources also position the country as a global energy hub, with international markets like Germany directing significant investment towards grabbing a share of the market.
“Namibia has a huge role to play in stabilizing energy supply and ensuring affordability across the region – as we seek to make energy poverty history in Africa by 2030,” Ayuk said.
The Namibia International Energy Conference, as the official meeting place for Namibian energy policymakers and companies with regional and global stakeholders, aims to increase investments across Namibia’s oil, gas, and green hydrogen landscapes and energy value chain.
The hosting of the event comes as Namibia is seeking to accelerate foreign direct investments to drive its energy agenda.
