Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Erastus Uutoni has approved the appointment of Conrad Lutombi as City of Windhoek CEO, the municipality has announced.
The approval comes after the local authority had requested his approval inline with the requirements of the Local Authorities Act.
The municipality will, however, still need to make a formal offer to Lutombi , the outcome of which will be determined by the candidate, to accept the offer or not.
The development comes after the Windhoek City Council unanimously endorsed Lutombi as its next CEO last month.
The capital city has been operating without a substantive CEO since November 2020 following the resignation of Robert Kahimise.
George Mayumbelo is currently acting CEO after having been reappointed this month.
Mayumbelo, who serves as the Strategic Executive for the Human Capital and Corporate Services Department, took over from O’Brien Hekandjo who was acting CEO from 16 August 2022 until 8 November 2022.
