The Ministry of Finance has announced that its has terminated medical aid benefits to 15 162 retirees that had failed to comply with government regulations when it comes to re-registration for the Public Service Medical Aid Scheme (PSMAS) after retirement.
The government department said the decision was taken after a verification process found that the affected members had not been contributing to PSMAS, but continued to receive full benefits.
“It was further established that a segment of retirees withdrew their full pension benefits. It is requirement that contribution for PSMAS should be deducted from pension benefits monthly,” the Finance ministry said.
“It is inline with the above staff rules and findings of the Verification Process, the Ministry resolved to terminate the medical aid of the affected members on the 3rd of September 2021.”
